About
This piece serves as the opening of a larger suite, including the Prelude and Transformation Music from Act 1 of Wagner's final opera, Parsifal. The suite follows the main protagonist Parsifal, a ‘pure fool’ whose own identity is unknown to him begins a journey of ‘enlightened by compassion’; from ‘ignorance to transcendence’. This opera follows the spiritual development of the hero Parsifal; a ‘fool who becomes wise through compassion’.
In part 1 of this journey through Parsifal we explore the overture, introducing the main themes of the opera, then moving to the powerful Transformation Music "Verwandlungsmusik”.
Recorded in 2020, this arrangement features the West Australian Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble. A recording can be found at Ensemble Edition: Wagner & Böhme beginning at 22:10.
