About

The Sonata da Chiesa ("church sonata") came into widespread usage in the 17th century as an alternative to solo organ music for mixed ensembles during liturgical services. Its 4 movements following alternate slow-fast-slow-fast pattern. The Italian Archangelo Corelli composed two sets of 12 Sonatas in his Op. 1 (1681) and Op. 3 (1689) collections.

This arrangement of the Trio Sonata Op.3 Nr.7 for brass trio was originally arranged for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra Brass in 2015. The 4 movements are an ideal introduction to baroque harmony and style for both education settings and for concert audiences alike.

More recently it was recorded by Sarah Willis (horn), Tamás Velenczei (trumpet) and Jesper Busk Sørensen (trombone) of the Berlin Philharmonic. The recording can be found on YouTube.
