Originally titled "W zlobie lezy" ("In the manger He lies"), it is attributed to Piotr Skarga, a Counter-Reformation Jesuit priest and writer. The traditional Polish folk melody carries a tender yet joyful lilt, combining pastoral imagery with the Gospel account of the Savior's birth. Edith Margaret Reed's 20th-century English translation preserved the original's beauty and singability, establishing it as a cherished staple in Christmas worship and carol collections worldwide.

As recorded on the 2025 album release from the Berlin Philharmonic Brass Ensemble, "Frohe Weihnachten!"

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0737/0135/9914/files/page26_2a725ab1-fd38-416c-a72a-a56f229d3d71.jpg?v=1790006490
