About
Concerto Grosso in d minor, Op.3 Nr.5 (HWV 316) by George Frideric Handel is one of his most loved works. Its 5 short movements demonstrate a variety of styles and give all players an opportunity to share in the melodic material. The movement structure is below.
- Grave
- Allegro
- Adagio
- Allegro ma non troppo
- Allegro
The first 2 movements were originally used by Handel in his Chandos Anthem Nr.2 “In The Lord I Put My Trust” (HWV 247). Edward Elgar also used these movements as the basis for his “Overture in D Minor”.
This arrangement was commissioned by the Berlin Philharmonic Brass Ensemble for a concert in Berlin in 2020. The recording is available on the Digital Concert Hall here.
A version for Brass Sextet (DE 0008) is also available.
